Harrowing scenes outside a Newcastle home where a six-week-old baby girl was 'found with her throat slit'

Woman, believed to be the girl's mother, has been arrested over incident

NSW Police say the baby was dead when emergency services arrived 



A mother has been arrested after a six-week-old baby girl was found dead after her throat was allegedly slit in her family home.
A police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the horrific discovery was made shortly before 9am on Friday morning, after emergency services were called to the house near Newcastle, about 160 kilometres north of Sydney. 
The baby was dead when emergency services arrived at the Wallsend property.

Harrowing pictures from the scene also show a crowd of people, believed to be relatives of the woman being interviewed by police, gathered in a park across from the house.
In one picture, an older woman can be seen openly weeping as she is comforted by two other women.
