Three masked men broke into Chris Brown's Los Angeles home and locked a relative in a wardrobe before ransacking the place.
Police said the singer was not at his home in the Tarzana area when it took place at 2am on Wednesday.
Officials said the suspects got away with an unknown amount of cash and a number of personal items.
The exact relationship between the relative and Brown has not been disclosed but it is understood she was not hurt.
Police do not know how long she was in the wardrobe.
All three men were carrying guns during the incident.
